NEW STRATEGIC PLANNING AND MAJOR INVESTMENTS FOR CANADA’S FIRST
INDIGENOUS RAILWAY LINE
Uashat, February 29, 2024 – The Board of Directors and the General Management of Tshiuetin
Rail Transport (Tshiuetin) met on February 21 to launch a major five-year strategic planning
project. This initiative aims to define a clear roadmap to achieve the organization’s objectives
while taking into account the specific needs of its customers, its employees, and all stakeholders
for the 2024-2029 period.
In addition to redefining the company’s mission, vision, and values, the directors examined several
key themes at the heart of its operations, including passenger and staff safety, quality of customer
service, financial and budget optimization, and responsible governance.
The conclusions of this strategic planning exercice will be presented at a later date at the general
assembly of members.
MAJOR INVESTMENTS
In addition to strategic planning, Tshiuetin is proud to announce major investments in the
modernization of its fleet. As a result, the company, which aims to continuously improve customer
service and passenger experience, has undertaken the renovation and upgrade of its passenger
cars. Travelers who use Tshiuetin’s services will now enjoy a superior level of comfort and benefit
from using the Wi-Fi network during their journey. The intercom and screens on board the
carriages will also be renewed, allowing passengers a better access to informaƟtion.
In addition, in order to ensure the reliability and safety of railway infrastructure, the company has
recently invested in the acquisition of new specialized equipment for track maintenance. This
decision is part of a responsible management approach aimed at ensuring the sustainability of the
infrastructure, while making significant savings through the reduction of maintenance and
handling costs.
Construction work is also underway on a new workers’ camp in Emeril. The modern 35-room
facility will provide a living environment that is more culturally adapted to the needs of Tshiuetin
workers, while providing an increased level of comfort. The work is scheduled to be completed in
May 2024. Tshiuetin is proud to provide quality, well-paying jobs to more than 150 people during
peak demand periods, 89% of whom are Indigenous, and where women hold key positions at all
levels.
These major investments were made possible thanks to significant contributions from Transport
Canada and the Canada Infrastructure Bank.
